Muhr is a municipality in the Tamsweg District of the Austrian state of Salzburg. It lies in the Lungau, the southeastern region of Salzburg, and is one of the district's smaller, rural communities.
The municipality is located in a mountainous alpine setting typical of the Lungau, a landscape of valleys and high peaks near the border with Carinthia and Styria. Its administrative seat is in the village of Muhr, and the surrounding area is sparsely populated and predominantly agricultural.
Like other communities in the Tamsweg District, Muhr is part of a region known for its alpine scenery and traditional character. The district itself is the only one in Salzburg that lies entirely within the Central Alps.
