Krimml

Austria

Krimml is a municipality in the Zell am See District of the federal state of Salzburg, Austria. It lies in the Pinzgau region, the Alpine area of Salzburg that takes in the valleys and mountains of the province's south.

The municipality is best known for the Krimml Waterfalls (Krimmler Wasserfälle), a tiered series of falls on the Krimmler Ache river that is among the highest in Europe and the centrepiece of a surrounding national park area. The falls and the high Alpine terrain around them make the village a base for walking and nature tourism in the Pinzgau.

Krimml sits at the upper end of the Salzach valley, close to the Gerlos Pass and the border with the neighbouring state of Tyrol. Its position on this Alpine route has long tied the settlement to traffic and trade across the eastern Alps.
