Hüttschlag is a municipality in the district of St. Johann im Pongau, in the Austrian state of Salzburg. It lies in the Pongau region of the eastern Alps, within the valley of the Grossarlbach (Grossarl valley), a side valley of the Salzach river system.
The settlement is a scattered mountain municipality rather than a compact town, made up of small hamlets and farmsteads spread across the valley floor and the surrounding slopes. Its economy and character have long been tied to alpine agriculture and forestry, with pastoral farming on the high pastures above the valley remaining a visible part of local life.
Hüttschlag sits at the upper, southern end of the Grossarl valley, near the head of the road that runs up from the market town of Grossarl. The surrounding terrain is mountainous, with steep wooded slopes and high alpine meadows, and the area forms part of the broader Hohe Tauern landscape that draws hikers and nature visitors to this part of Salzburg.
