Reichenthal is a municipality in the district of Urfahr-Umgebung, in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. It lies in the Mühlviertel region of the country, north of the city of Linz, which is the capital of Upper Austria and the seat of the surrounding Urfahr-Umgebung district.
As a municipality, Reichenthal is one of the local administrative units that make up the Urfahr-Umgebung district. Austrian municipalities at this level typically encompass a main village or town together with a number of smaller surrounding settlements and rural hamlets, and they form the lowest tier of government below the districts and the federal states.
Upper Austria is one of the nine federal states of Austria, located in the north-central part of the country and bordering Germany and the Czech Republic. The Urfahr-Umgebung district, to which Reichenthal belongs, surrounds the city of Linz on its northern side.
