Stössing is a municipality in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It lies in the eastern part of Austria, within the federal province that surrounds the city of Sankt Pölten, the provincial capital.
As a municipality, Stössing is one of the local administrative units that make up the Sankt Pölten-Land district. The district takes its name from Sankt Pölten, the largest city in Lower Austria and the seat of the surrounding district administration, though the district itself comprises numerous separate municipalities of which Stössing is one.
Lower Austria is the northeasternmost and largest of Austria's nine states by area, and Sankt Pölten-Land is one of its districts. Stössing therefore belongs to the broader administrative structure of Lower Austria, a region bordered by the Czech Republic to the north and by several other Austrian states.
