Spitz

Austria

Spitz an der Donau is a market town in the district of Krems-Land in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It lies in the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage area, on the left bank of the Danube downstream from Willendorf.

The town is known for its ferry across the Danube, which is unusual in having neither a motor nor a sail. It is powered by a rudder set against the river current and is anchored to a cable above the river. The ferry carries passengers, bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles.
