Schrems is a town in the district of Gmünd, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It lies in the northwestern part of the country, in the Waldviertel region near the border with the Czech Republic.
The town is the administrative seat of its surrounding municipality and serves as a local centre for the communities of the Gmünd district. Its setting in the Waldviertel, a wooded highland area of Lower Austria, places it within one of the state's more rural and less densely populated regions.
