Ramsau is a town in the district of Lilienfeld, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It lies in the federal province of Lower Austria, the northeastern state of Austria that surrounds Vienna, and it belongs administratively to the Lilienfeld district within that state.
The town shares its name with several other places in Austria, including the well-known Ramsau am Dachstein in Styria, so it is usually identified by reference to its district and state. Its location in the Lilienfeld district places it in the Alpine foothills region of Lower Austria, an area historically associated with forestry and ironworking.
Ramsau is a small municipality rather than a major urban centre, and available reference material on it is limited to its administrative classification. It is therefore best known simply as one of the communities making up the Lilienfeld district of Lower Austria.
