Pernegg is a town in the district of Horn, in the state of Lower Austria, Austria. It lies in the Waldviertel, the northwestern quadrant of Lower Austria, a region of rolling granite hills and forests bordering the Czech Republic.
The settlement is best known for Pernegg Abbey (Stift Pernegg), a former Premonstratensian monastery founded in the twelfth century. After the order was dissolved, the complex passed to the Benedictines of Göttweig Abbey and now serves as a spiritual and retreat centre. The abbey church, dedicated to Saint Andrew, is a listed building and the town's principal landmark.
Pernegg is a small rural community whose economy has traditionally rested on agriculture and forestry. It is connected by road to Horn, the district capital, roughly 15 kilometres to the south, and to the wider Waldviertel network of towns.
