Mauerbach is a town in the Lower Austria region of Austria, situated on the western boundary of Vienna. Its position places it at the edge of the Austrian capital, in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land.
The town is perhaps best known for the Kartause Mauerbach, a former Carthusian monastery founded in the 14th century. After the monastery was dissolved, its buildings served various purposes over the centuries, including as a retirement home and later as a training centre, before undergoing extensive restoration.
Mauerbach is also surrounded by the Vienna Woods, the forested highlands that extend into the city, giving the area a green, semi-rural character despite its proximity to Vienna.
