Gföhl is a town and municipality in the district of Krems-Land, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It lies in the Waldviertel, the forested northwestern quarter of Lower Austria, roughly 15 kilometres northwest of the city of Krems an der Donau.
The town is the seat of a judicial district and serves as a small administrative and service centre for the surrounding rural communities. Its landmark is the parish church of the Assumption, a Gothic building with a fortified wall and a baroque high altar, standing on a terrace above the market square. Gföhl was first mentioned in documents in the twelfth century and received its market rights in the fourteenth.
The municipality covers about 60 square kilometres and includes numerous outlying villages and hamlets. The surrounding landscape is dominated by agriculture, forestry and granite outcrops, with the Kamp river valley to the west and the Gföhlerwald hills to the north. The B37 road connects the town with Krems and with Zwettl further to the northwest.
