Gerolding

Austria

Gerolding is a settlement in the municipality of Dunkelsteinerwald, in Melk District, Lower Austria, in northeastern Austria. It lies within the Dunkelsteinerwald, the forested hill country of the Dunkelsteinerwald region south of the Danube, in the federal state of Lower Austria.

Administratively, Gerolding is not a municipality in its own right; it is one of the constituent settlements of Dunkelsteinerwald, whose municipal offices serve the area. Melk District, to which it belongs, is part of the Mostviertel, the western quarter of Lower Austria, and takes its name from the town of Melk on the Danube.

The settlement is located in the Dunkelsteinerwald, a wooded upland that gives the surrounding municipality its name. Its position in Lower Austria places it in the northeastern part of the country, within reach of the Danube valley and the district town of Melk.
