Geras

Austria

Geras is a town in the district of Horn, in the state of Lower Austria, Austria. It lies in the northern part of the country, within the Waldviertel region near the border with the Czech Republic.

The town is best known for the Geras Abbey (Stift Geras), a Premonstratensian monastery founded in the 12th century. The monastery complex, with its church and historic buildings, is the town's principal landmark and has long shaped its character as a small monastic settlement.

Geras remains a minor administrative and cultural centre within the Horn district, set in a rural landscape of forests and farmland typical of the Waldviertel.
