Echsenbach is a municipality in the district of Zwettl, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is located in the Waldviertel, the northwestern quadrant of Lower Austria, a region bordering the Czech Republic and characterised by granite plateaus, forests and farmland rather than alpine terrain.
As a municipality, Echsenbach is one of the administrative units that make up the Zwettl district, the largest district in Lower Austria by area. The town of Zwettl, the district's administrative seat, lies to the west, while the regional capital of Lower Austria, St. Pölten, lies to the south.
Like other communities in the Waldviertel, Echsenbach is a small, rural settlement whose surroundings are dominated by agriculture and woodland. The municipality's name and its position within the Zwettl district are the principal facts established about it; detailed information on its history, population and landmarks is limited.
