Weiden am See

Austria

Weiden am See is a town in the district of Neusiedl am See, in the Austrian state of Burgenland. It lies in the easternmost part of Austria, a region bordering Hungary and centred on the shallow steppe lake known as Lake Neusiedl (Neusiedler See).

The town's name reflects its position by the water, and it sits close to the lake's western shore within the Neusiedl am See district, whose administrative centre is the neighbouring town of Neusiedl am See. Burgenland is Austria's easternmost and, by population, one of its smallest states, and the area around the lake is noted for its flat, open landscape and wine-growing traditions.

Beyond its status as a municipality within the Neusiedl am See district, Weiden am See is best known for its setting on Lake Neusiedl, a body of water shared with Hungary and surrounded by a national park and a designated cultural landscape. The lake and its surroundings are recognised for their natural and scenic value, which shapes the character of the communities along its shore.
