San José de Metán is a city in the south of the province of Salta, Argentina. It lies about 160 kilometres from the provincial capital, Salta, and is the head town of the Metán Department.
The city sits on National Routes 9 and 34, which connect it with the rest of the province and the country. According to the 2010 census [INDEC], it has approximately 28,000 inhabitants.
