Cachi

Argentina

Cachi is a small city in Salta Province, in northwestern Argentina. It serves as the capital of the Cachi Department.

The town lies in the Calchaquí Valleys, a high-altitude region of the Andes known for its arid, mountainous landscapes and clear skies. Cachi sits at an elevation of roughly 2,500 metres above sea level, near the foothills of the Nevado de Cachi massif, and is reached by the scenic Ruta Nacional 40, which winds through the surrounding valleys.

Cachi is noted for its well-preserved colonial character, with low adobe buildings, cobbled streets and a whitewashed church facing the main square. The surrounding area is associated with wine production, particularly Torrontés and other varietals grown in the high-altitude vineyards of the Calchaquí Valleys, as well as with traditional crafts and regional cuisine.
