Concepcion de la Sierra

Argentina

Concepción de la Sierra is a village and municipality in Misiones Province in north-eastern Argentina. It is located in the Misiones region, an area known for its subtropical climate and its historical ties to the Jesuit missions of the colonial era.

The town sits on the original location of a Jesuit Reduction founded in 1619. This makes it one of the older settlements in the region, established during the period when the Society of Jesus organized indigenous communities into mission settlements across what is now Misiones and neighbouring areas.

The Jesuit heritage is still visible in Concepción de la Sierra. The Jesuits were expelled from the Spanish Empire in 1767, an event that ended their administration of the reductions and marked a turning point for the mission settlements of the region.
