Aimogasta is a municipality and village in La Rioja Province, in northwestern Argentina. It is located in the western part of the province, within the arid Andean region of the country.
The settlement is one of several small communities in La Rioja Province, a sparsely populated jurisdiction whose economy has traditionally centred on agriculture and livestock in the river valleys that cross the region. Aimogasta sits in one such valley area, where irrigation supports local cultivation in an otherwise dry landscape.
As a municipality, Aimogasta serves as an administrative centre for its surrounding area. It remains a small locality rather than a major urban centre, and is not to be confused with larger or better-known places in Argentina that share a similar name.
