Tilcara, formally San Francisco de Tilcara, is a city in the province of Jujuy in northwestern Argentina. It is the head town of the Tilcara Department. At the 2010 census it had a population of 6,249 inhabitants.
The area around Tilcara is among the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Argentina, with traces of human habitation dating back more than 10,000 years.
