Leleque

Argentina

Leleque is a village and municipality in Chubut Province, in southern Argentina. It is one of the small settlements that make up the sparsely populated interior of the province, which lies in the Patagonia region of the country's south.

As a municipality, Leleque forms part of the local administrative structure of Chubut Province. The surrounding area is typical of northern Patagonia, a landscape of open steppe and low, dry terrain rather than the dense forests found farther west along the Andes.

Leleque is best known beyond its immediate area for lending its name to Estancia Leleque, a large Patagonian sheep-farming estate associated with the Benetton group's extensive landholdings in the region. The village itself remains small, serving the rural population of its surroundings.
