Monte Hermoso is a town on the Argentine Atlantic Coast, in the south of Buenos Aires Province. It lies roughly 100 km (62 mi) east of the city of Bahía Blanca and serves as the administrative seat of the partido (district) of Monte Hermoso.
The town is one of the settlements along Argentina's Atlantic seaboard, a stretch of coastline known for its beaches and seaside resorts. Its position east of Bahía Blanca places it within the southern coastal area of Buenos Aires Province, a region distinct from the more heavily populated northern coast around the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.
As the seat of its partido, Monte Hermoso functions as the local administrative centre for the surrounding district. The town shares its name with that district, a common arrangement in Buenos Aires Province, where the cabecera (seat) of a partido often carries the same name as the partido itself.
