Tumbe is an early Medieval Swahili historic site located in the Micheweni District of the Pemba North Region. It is situated adjacent to the village of Tumbe and served as the primary location on the island between 600 and 1000 AD.
The city functioned as a major commerce hub for the Indian Ocean during its period of prominence. Archaeological evidence indicates that several smaller sites dating from the eighth to tenth centuries AD were grouped around this central metropolis.
