Lusaka is the capital and largest city of Zambia, serving as the nation's primary center for both commerce and government. Located in the southern part of the central plateau at an elevation of approximately 1,279 metres (4,196 ft), it is recognized as one of the fastest-developing cities in southern Africa.
The city serves as a major transportation hub, connecting to Zambia's four main highways heading north, south, east, and west. As of 2019, Lusaka had a population of about 3.3 million people, with an estimated urban population of 2.5 million in 2018. While English is the official language of the city administration, Bemba, Tonga, and Chichewa are the most commonly spoken street languages.
