Nchelenge

Zambia

Nchelenge is a town located in the Luapula Province of northern Zambia. It is situated on the southeastern shore of Lake Mweru and is contiguous with the neighboring settlement of Kashikishi. Due to their proximity, the two locations are sometimes referred to collectively as Nchelenge-Kashikishi.

The town serves as the administrative center for the Zambian portion of Lake Mweru, housing the seat of the district government and various branches of national agencies. In contrast, Kashikishi functions primarily as a market and fisheries center. Nchelenge was officially upgraded to District status in 1997 after previously serving as a sub-district structure of the Kawambwa District.
