Chipata is a city located in Zambia. It serves as the administrative centre for both the Eastern Province and the Chipata District.
The location was officially declared the fifth city of Zambia on February 24, 2017, by President Edgar Lungu, following Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe, and Livingstone. This designation followed a period of rapid economic and infrastructure growth within the area leading up to its city status.
