Kabwe is the capital city of the Central Province and the Kabwe District in Zambia. According to the 2022 census, the city has an estimated population of 288,598 residents.
The city was founded in 1902 following the discovery of lead and zinc deposits. It was originally known as Broken Hill until it was renamed Kabwe in 1966. Historically, the area served as a significant political center during the colonial period, leading to its recognition as the birthplace of Zambian politics.
