Winterveld is a large township situated in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality within the Gauteng province of South Africa. Located approximately 40 km north-northwest of Pretoria by road, it sits at the north-western corner of Tshwane adjacent to the townships of Mabopane and Soshanguve.
The community covers an area of about 104.5 km² and recorded a population of 120,826 during the 2011 census, making it one of the larger townships in northern Gauteng. Geographically, Winterveld is positioned on the Highveld plateau at the boundary with the Bushveld grassland, resting on ancient Bushveld granite. The locality typically experiences a hot semi-arid climate.
