Oudtshoorn is a town situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is geographically positioned between the Swartberg mountains to the north and the Outeniqua Mountains to the south. With a population of approximately 60,000 inhabitants, it serves as the largest town within the Klein Karoo region.
The town is widely recognized as the "ostrich capital of the world" due to its significant ostrich farming industry and tourism. It is home to the world's largest ostrich population, featuring several specialized breeding facilities such as the Highgate Ostrich Show Farm and the Safari Show Farm. Historically, the area experienced notable ostrich-feather booms during the periods of 1865–1870 and 1900–1914.
