Franschhoek

Franschhoek is a small town located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is one of the oldest towns in the country and was formerly known as Oliphants hoek. The town is situated approximately 75 kilometres from Cape Town, which is roughly a 45-minute drive away.

The broader area surrounding the town includes suburbs such as Wemmershoek and townships like Groendal, with a total population slightly exceeding 20,000 people. The town proper, known as Hugenote, has a population of around 1,000 residents. Since the year 2000, Franschhoek has been incorporated into the Stellenbosch Municipality.
