Mmabatho is a city located in South Africa that served as the former capital of the North-West Province. During the apartheid era, it functioned as the capital of Bophuthatswana, a "Bantustan" territory.
The city's history includes a significant administrative merger with the adjacent town of Mafikeng (formerly Mafeking). While Mafikeng briefly remained outside of Bophuthatswana, it merged with Mmabatho in 1980 and was treated as a suburb of the city until 1994.
