Klerksdorp is a city situated in the North West Province of South Africa. It is located approximately 165 km (103 mi) southeast of Mahikeng, which serves as the provincial capital.

Historically, Klerksdorp served as the first capital of the Transvaal Republic and was the site of the region's first Stock Exchange. The town developed into a significant trading hub connecting Kimberley to Johannesburg, attracting a diverse population of farmers, miners, and immigrants who serviced these two major industries. Its location was primarily determined by favorable climate conditions and the availability of water.
