Louis Trichardt, often referred to by the informal abbreviation LTT, is a town located in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Situated at the foot of Hanglip in the Soutpansberg mountain range, it serves as the center of the Makhado Local Municipality, which covers an area of 16,000 km2. The town is positioned along the N1 national route and is located approximately 437 kilometres from Johannesburg and 106 kilometres from the Zimbabwean border at Beitbridge.
Historically, Louis Trichardt served as the capital of the Rambulana Venda Kingdom until 1864. While the town was known as Makhado for a period in the 21st century, its name was subsequently changed back to Louis Trichardt. The surrounding area is a fertile region primarily used for the production of litchis, bananas, mangoes, and nuts. The local population speaks several common languages, including Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Afrikaans, and English.
