The springbok, also known as the springbuck, is an antelope species found primarily in the regions of south and southwest Africa. It is the only living member of the genus Antidorcas and was first described by German zoologist Eberhard August Wilhelm von Zimmermann in 1780. There are currently three identified subspecies of this bovid.
This slender, long-legged antelope typically reaches a shoulder height of 71 to 86 cm and weighs between 27 and 42 kg. Both sexes possess a pair of black horns measuring 35 to 50 cm in length that curve backwards. The species is distinguished by a white face, a dark stripe extending from the eyes to the mouth, and a light brown coat featuring a reddish-brown stripe across the flanks. It also possesses a characteristic white rump flap.
