Hopetown

Hopetown is a town located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is situated on an arid slope at the edge of the Great Karoo, positioned leading down toward the Orange River.

The town is historically significant for its role in the diamond mining industry. Between 1867 and 1869, two of the largest diamonds ever discovered in South Africa—the Eureka Diamond and the Star of Africa—were found at Hopetown.
