Carletonville is a town located in the Gauteng province of South Africa. It serves as the seat of the Merafong City Local Municipality within the West Rand District Municipality.
The town is situated just north of the world's richest gold-mining area. Notably, it is home to Western Deep Levels, which holds the record for being the world's deepest gold mine at a depth of 3,749 meters.
