Lady Frere is a small town located in the Chris Hani District Municipality within the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The town was officially renamed Cacadu in 2017 as part of a broader initiative to replace colonial-era names across the country.
The name Cacadu translates to "bulrush water" and is derived from the Xhosa name for the White Kei River, which originates in the district. Geographically, the area is noted for being one of the largest rural sections of the former Transkei region.
