Senekal is a town located in the eastern region of the Free State province in South Africa. It is situated on the banks of the Sand River.
The town was named in honor of Commandant FP Senekal, who led Boer forces under the Orange Free State government during the encroachment into Basotho lands. Commandant Senekal died in 1865 during a conflict known as Senekal's War.
