Marquard is a small farming town located in the Free State province of South Africa. It serves as a local hub for Winburg, situated in the northwest region of the province.
The town was established in 1905 on the farm Varschfontein. It was founded by JJ Marquard, an influential Dutch Reform minister, with assistance from Christoffel Cornelis Froneman, who served as the commandant of the Orange Free State. The settlement attained official municipal status during its founding year.
