Mamafubedu, officially known as Petrus Steyn, is a small farming town located in the Free State province of South Africa. It is situated approximately 35 km north-east of Lindley, positioned between the towns of Tweeling and Kroonstad.
The town serves as a central hub for an agricultural region known as part of the Free State's breadbasket. The local economy is supported by the production of wheat, maize, sunflowers, potatoes, cattle, sheep, and hunting. Notably, the farming industries in Petrus Steyn supply potatoes to markets worldwide.
Geographically, Mamafubedu is recognized as the highest town above sea level in the Free State province. It is located within the Grassland biome, which covers 29% of South Africa's land area. The town sits upon a landscape underlain by both the Adelaide and Tarkastad geological formations.
