Dewetsdorp is a small town located in the Free State province of South Africa, situated approximately 68 km south-east of Bloemfontein. The settlement was originally established by field-cornet Jacobus de Wet without official approval from the Volksraad. It was eventually recognized officially and renamed De Wet in 1890.
The town is notable for its historical connection to General Christiaan de Wet, who served as a general during the Second Anglo-Boer War. In November 1900, General de Wet successfully conducted an attack on English forces stationed within the town.
