South Africa

Bultfontein is a town located in the Free State province of South Africa. It is situated within the Tswelopele Local Municipality, approximately 100 kilometres (60 mi) north of Bloemfontein. The town currently has a population of about 23,400 people.

The site of Bultfontein was originally laid out in 1873, though the process was delayed due to a location dispute. This same dispute resulted in the establishment of Hoopstad, located 55 kilometres (35 mi) to the north-west. Additionally, the township of Phahameng was established on the outskirts of Bultfontein during the 1970s.
