The Wartburg is a medieval castle located in the state of Thuringia, Germany. Situated at an elevation of 410 metres (1,350 ft), it sits on a southwest-facing precipice overlooking the town of Eisenach to the north.
The site holds significant historical and cultural importance as the former home of St. Elisabeth of Hungary and the location where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. It is also associated with the 1817 Wartburg festival, the legendary Sängerkrieg, and served as a primary inspiration for King Ludwig II's construction of Neuschwanstein Castle.
