Vryheid is a city located in the northern region of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The town serves as a primary hub for coal mining and cattle ranching within the province.

The name Vryheid is derived from the Afrikaans word for "freedom." Historically, the area was known by its original name, Abaqulusi, which refers to the abaQulusi clan that was based in the local vicinity.
