Al-Shihr, also known as ash-Shir or Shihr, is a coastal town situated in the Hadhramaut region of eastern Yemen. The settlement is characterized by its location on a sandy beach and is defined by its walled structure. Geographically, the town is divided into two distinct quarters by a wādi called al-Misyāl: the western quarter is known as Majraf, while the eastern portion is called al-Ramla.
The town serves as a maritime location featuring an anchorage, though it lacks formal docks, requiring the use of boats for access. Its primary economic export is fish oil. Historically and culturally, Al-Shihr has hosted several markets, including Sūq al-Lakham, Sūq al-Hunūd, and Sūq Shibām.
