Caracas, officially known as Santiago de León de Caracas (CCS), is the capital and largest city of Venezuela. It serves as the central hub of the Metropolitan Region of Caracas, which has an estimated population exceeding 5 million inhabitants.
The city is situated in the northern part of the country within the Caracas Valley of the Venezuelan coastal mountain range, positioned along the Guaire River. The valley is separated from the Caribbean Sea by a steep mountain range known as Cerro El Ávila, which reaches heights of approximately 2,200 meters (7,200 feet). Additional hills and mountains border the valley to the south.
