Capacho Viejo is a town located in the Táchira State of Venezuela. It serves as the capital of the Libertad parish within the Libertad Municipality. The settlement was founded on July 27, 1602, by Antonio Beltrán de Guevara, who held the position of captain-governor of Tunja at the time.
The history of the town was significantly altered by a powerful earthquake on May 18, 1875, which destroyed much of the original settlement. Following this disaster, the surviving residents established a neighboring town called Capacho Nuevo on an estate known as El Blanquizal. As of 2023, projections from the National Institute of Statistics estimated the population of Capacho Viejo to be 31,275 inhabitants.
