Marigüitar is a small coastal town located in the state of Sucre, Venezuela. It is situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Cariaco, positioned across from the Araya Peninsula. The town is located approximately 20 kilometers west of Cumaná, which serves as its nearest city.
The town is a point along the narrow, winding road that connects Cumaná and Carúpano. Its economy is primarily centered on a large fish-processing plant owned by Mavesa, a subsidiary of Empresas Polar. This facility serves as the principal source of employment for the local residents.
Transportation within the region is facilitated by a small fleet of buses, pick-up trucks, and privately owned cars. These vehicles provide transit between Marigüitar, surrounding communities, and the city of Cumaná.
