Carúpano is a city located in the eastern Venezuelan state of Sucre. Situated on the Venezuelan Caribbean coast at the opening of two valleys, it lies approximately 120 km east of Cumaná, which serves as the state capital.
The city functions as the shire town of the Bermúdez Municipality, which had a population of 173,877 according to the 2010 Venezuelan census. Carúpano is recognized as the main commercial and financial center for the region and serves as the gateway to the Paria Peninsula.
