Porlamar is a city located in the state of Nueva Esparta, Venezuela. It serves as the most populated city, major seaport, and primary center within that state. The city is situated on the southern coast of Margarita Island, which is one of three islands in the Caribbean Sea off the South American mainland that comprise Nueva Esparta.
Geographically, Porlamar is located approximately 6 miles (10 km) from La Asunción, the capital of the state. It also functions as the capital of Mariño, which is the most populous of the eleven municipalities in Nueva Esparta.
